The Forest Service is hosting Denver Public School kids for the 4th annual AG Ranch Kids Day, May 11, 9:20 am to 1:30 pm at the Shawnee Pack Station just west of Bailey (map).
The day is designed to introduce students to concepts of natural resource management, including recreation, fire, forestry, wildlife, and invasive species. There will be around 60 students plus chaperones and teachers.
The students break into groups and walk to learning stations on the ranch. These stations include archaeology, fire fighting, mule packing, rock formations, and more. WDTU volunteers will staff two stations, aquatic entomology and a fly fishing demonstration. We show the kids bugs, oxygen testing, fly fishing equipment, and casting. This is a fun and rewarding event.
