CTU Awards WDTU Members at the 2017 Rendezvous

by: Cy Ball

Colorado Trout Unlimited recently hosted their 2017 Rendezvous in Keystone, Colorado.  Part of the meeting was the annual awards ceremony.  West Denver TU was well represented, receiving three awards.

CTU Awards to WDTU members 2017 Rendezvous

Ed Calmus, Tim Toohey, Gil Hassinger

  • The John Connolly Outstanding Chapter Communications Award.

The Chapter was recognized for its communications efforts.  They began with a strategic planning exercise, progressed through an embrace of social media, and ended with a “campaign approach” to communications.  That is to say, the Chapter tailors its communications efforts to each event.  Some events are promoted solely through the website and email blasts, while others involve community publications, tweets, newsletter articles, and Facebook posts.  Ed Calmus accepted the Communications Award for the Chapter.

  • Outstanding Volunteer Award:  Tim Toohey

Tim is a tireless worker for WDTU, and one of its most ardent supporters.  His focus on continuous improvement is reflected in the advancements of WDTU during his leadership.  Tim is one of those “Where would we be without him?” guys.  WDTU conducts around 100 activities annually.  If you go to one, you will probably see Tim there.  Well deserved, Tim.

  • Distinguished Service Award:  Gil Hassinger

Gil is a long time chapter member.  He was instrumental in the success of River Watch, bringing water quality monitoring to CTU chapters.  Gil taught high school students how to test water quality at River Watch certification seminars.  He recently was the first recipient of the “Gil Hassinger Award.”  This award, rarely given, recognizes a lifetime of service to watershed conservation.  Glen Edwards accepted the award in Gil’s absence.
