Chapter Logo Remake

We need to remake our logo because print quality artwork has been lost. This is an opportunity to change or update our logo.

A logo should look good in black and white as well as color. Most organizations have authorized versions for color and another for black with white and/or the reverse white with black. Historically logo's have been simple designs for easy reproduction and recognition. Think of any major organization logo and you probably will see simplicity, such as those for: TU, Ducks Unlimited, Nike, Nokia, ATT, GE. One to three colors are the norm. Simplicity also helps maintain recognition even for small logo applications.
Modern graphic capabilities make color reproductions less expensive than what they used to be. Since "branding" is not a major concern for WDTU do we want to follow conventional wisdom?

The board will be taking up an action plan at the next board meeting. If you have an comments or suggestions please submit them to Our President, Fred Portillo, 303.467.3890

This one was one of two on our web site from the beginning.

This is a simpler form that was also on our web site from the beginning.

This is similar to what is on our outing Trailer, also.

Rob Medina's remake suggestion is now appearing on the electronic newsletter. Is this what should be approved?
The above are black and white versions of the color ones directly above them. There are other versions floating around but these are the only ones I have access to post.

West Fork Clear Creek Work Days
Aug 16th (Sat)
Aug 23rd-24th (Sat ,Sun)

Coors Brewing Company and their employees have a work day scheduled on the West Fork of Clear Creek, in August, doing some channel work on the stream to help make it a better habitat for the planned reintroduction of greenback cutthroat trout. This is one of the sites that Gil and WDTU has been helping to monitor for water quality. I think it would be a great opportunity for WDTU volunteers to participate side-by-side with folks from Coors on this project - doing something good for a trout stream and helping continue to build a positive relationship with one of your major local industries.

If you are interested in participating please contact our president Fred Portillo, 303.467.3890, cpfred@aol.com.

We have been asked to do another day of fly tying and fishing at Camp Wapiyapi, near Estes Park. This is an optional activity for the kids who sign up. Last year Charlie rounded up a great group of volunteers and it was a big hit according to the camp Director, Aaron Smith. The campers are cancer patients ages 6-17. The pond is well-stocked and last year a girl tied a woolly bugger and caught a 20 incher with it. This was the highlight of her week at the camp.

The date that seems to work best is Tuesday, June 3. The sessions are 9:00 to noon, and 1:00 to 2:30. Lunch is provided. Most of each session would be taken up with tying and fishing, but we will also work in some entomology and the TU mission of conservation and water quality.

Please let me know ASAP if you can do this. Once we have a group of available volunteers we can work out car pooling arrangements. Rick Tarr - Rictarr@aol.com, 303.233.9391

Recyling

Used Ink cartridges and Cellular telephones:
Our Secretary, Ric Tarr, has involved WDTU in unique fund raising activity. When WDTU members turn in their used ink cartridges and/or cell phones, they will be recycled, and the Chapter receives a donation of $1.00 each (does not include ink tanks). A recycling collection bin will be available at Chapter meetings (starting in September). Members can also purchase recycled ink cartridges on line, buying one at the regular price and receiving a second one free. This results in a $5.00 donation to the Chapter for each purchase. The on line site is www.inkagain.org. In order for the Chapter to get credit, the WDTU code has to be entered: 310297.

Rechargeable batteries:
Many of the electronics you use these days use rechargeable batteries. Help protect the environment by recycling them.
The chapter does not accept batteries for recycling but this website provides sources that do: call2recycle.org
Some of those sources in the Denver area are: Batteries Plus, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe's, Office Depot, Radio Shack, Sears, Staples, Target.

If you know of places to recycle electronic and what please send me the information.

LEGISLATION NEWS

“Rapid Response” WDTU Members
The ability of West Denver Trout Unlimited members to rapidly respond to critical issues concerning fisheries conservation depends upon rapid communication. Hard copy and electronic newsletters can provide critical information, but cannot provide members with immediate information concerning legislative action, meeting dates, or other time-sensitive data vital to an informed and timely response.
The WDTU board has approved the establishment of a “rapid response” email list of WDTU members, designated for the express purpose of providing information to those members who may wish to proactively respond to important issues that affect our fisheries. Members who wish to be listed will then be notified by email when an important event is eminent, or when calls and letters to their representatives are needed.
We will not use anyone’s email address without your express permission, but if you would like to help
fisheries conservation by being a member of WDTU’s
‘rapid response” email list, please send your message to
Dan Sullivan at the following email address:
<WDTU@msn.com>.

Find your State and US Senators/Representative + their contact information:
www.vote-smart.org

From that site, you can find out who your legislators are. You will need to enter your zip plus four to call up your district information; if you do not know that number, the website includes a link to the US Post Office website where you can look up your plus four using your address. Both features appear in the upper left hand portion of the vote-smart web page.
