Joseph's Journey Fishing Derby: A final report of our involvement.
The rain did put a damper on the activities if only you did not make it.
This years derby was far and away the most successful in terms of fish.
The best of all the 5 years the West Denver T.U. chapter has been involved
with this program. We have been there since they started this derby and
I personally hope we are there for the duration.
We did have a huge amount of rain most all day that Saturday but in the
end it did not stop everyone from showing up and having a wondeful time.
The children did not seem to mind too much that's for sure. Some parents
were having a great time as well. The D.O.W. supplies all the fishing
equipment and allows the kids to take home their Fishing pole. The D.O.W.
also made sure that the kids had one Great time in all the fish they landed.
And land fish they did. Some fish were quite large. Some kids were into
double digits when they left and what we, as volunteers had to enjoy was
the chance to be a part of these childrens lives. Albeit, for one day
only. The weather held some off in coming out but with terminally ill
children that is to be expected. But the ones that did come out certainly
appreciated the efforts of all of us who were there to help them fish.
If it would have been a sunny day there would have been no chance for
us to keep up with the volume of fish I think we would have had to contend
with. So I think that when I ask for volunteers next year, I will see
that we have a good number of people to help as this thing is going to
grow due to the lake that the Denver Water and the D.O.W has so fondly
provided.
Thank you everyone, from Kim and Vickie Steuart, Whom asked me to be sure
I expressed their appreciation. And of course we made sure every one left
well fed.
It could not have been better.

Just got word--Kim Steuart would like to hold another Derby this year
for those who not make it out due to the rain
August 6. I will be calling.
