April 2004 - 11 Mile Canyon :

Last Cast of the Day Gil, Bob, Tom, Jim, Dave

It was the "Best of trips", it was the "Worst of trips"

This years West Denver Trout Unlimited spring trip again was a huge success.

There were 10 of us who made the trek down to lake George this year and we enjoyed being put up in a wonderful little cabin for 3 days.

Martin Mahanti brought along his friend Adam. I was joined by my buddy Tom. We arrived that Saturday, early morning. Gil Hassinger and Jim Van Lier made it Sunday as did Fred Protillo along with Tim Timanson and Dave Brady.
.
We fished through the wind Saturday and Sunday which was really tough (thus "the worst of times"). At times, the wind was enough to make you lean into it to keep from being blown over.

I must say though, it was a pleasure to be able to forget about that wind when we were landing fish most of the day.('best of times")

Martins friend Adam had never fished for trout before, as he came from Michigan two month's ago, but I must say, he did enjoy it when he landed his first of many early Saturday just after we arrived. Put him in a hole that day and he never did move from that spot. His name will forever be engraved on that one rock.

Martin and Tom seemed to be having a great time as well. Working those tiny flies thru every run they could find. Success was had by all, but then Sunday when Gil and Fred arrived, we thought we had mastered the art of fly fishing until we watched them hook into so many fish we could not believe what we were seeing. I love the way Gil talks to them. He becomes sort of a friend to every fish he releases.

Tim on the other hand, Just went about his business and showed us what it takes to make a great trip. But above all was Dave and his mastery of the art of Cooking. What a treat to have that done for us. It was like we had our own caterer right there in the cabin. ( Note from Dave: I know how to cook two things well. Some times I can boil water without scortching the pan. After wind and cold all day anyone that will cook is a chef worthy of praise.)

I thank everyone for all the great times we have had over the years on all those chapter trips we have taken. In the last 4 years we have seen Utah and The Rockies out near Glenwood as well as all those short trips we have taken together.

Now that my services as Trip Coordinator are complete, I am looking forward to what our new Program manager has in store for us in the years to come

Thanks every one. Great times

See you on the river.
