MONTHLY MEETINGS:

Jan. 6th - Wed:

Guest Speaker shall be Ken Neubecker with a talk about "Flowing Uphill, an Unnatural History of the upper Colorado River". It's a look at the existing and proposed trans-mountain diversions, their cumulative impacts and the impending impacts from climate change, growth (on both sides of the divide) and potential energy development.

Ken Neubecker is the current President of Colorado Trout Unlimited, a conservation organization whose mission is to Conserve, Protect and Restore Colorado's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. He is the Environmental Representative on the Colorado River Basin Roundtable, where he is co-chair of the Non-Consumptive Needs Assessment sub-committee, and on the Governor's Forest Health Advisory Council. Ken has been involved in Colorado water issues for many years, particularly in water needs and impacts on the West Slope. He was involved with the Statewide Water Supply Initiative (SWSI) and has been a part of the Colorado River Headwaters Forum for the past 16 years. Ken was also a co-founder of the Eagle River Watershed Council and is a current Board member for the Colorado Watershed Assembly. Ken has been a speaker at the annual Colorado Water Workshop and a table host for the CSU Libraries annual Water Tables fundraiser. He is a graduate of Lawrence University in Wisconsin (BA, Geology) and CU - Boulder (M.Ed., Experiential Education).

Guest Fly Tier:

Our guest tier for the January 6 meeting will be Ryan Jones. He and his Dad, Bart, have been welcome additions to our chapter & need no introduction. His tying talents and enthusiasm for the sport have grown immensely in the last couple of years. They became acquainted with us when were planting willows along the bank at our Clear Creek project in Golden in which both Ryan and his father helpedus out. Ryan is a past recipient of our sponsorship at one of the past Youth summer camp projects. The only new tidbit of information that I have on him recently is his budding business, Ry’s Flies. He also tied at our clinic last year. - Greg Parks/Ryan Jones

WDTU Shirt Logo
Jackie Edwards has made arrangements with a vendor to have an official WDTU logo imprinted on your shirt for just $3. This program was initiated last year and has gained popularity. You simply need to bring your shirt to the January Chapter meeting, give it to Jackie, and she’ll take care of the rest.

Bring these Recycle Items to Any of Our Meetings

Used Ink cartridges and Cellular telephones:
Our Secretary, Ric Tarr, has involved WDTU in unique fund raising activity. When WDTU members turn in their used ink cartridges and/or cell phones, they will be recycled, and the Chapter receives a donation of $1.00 each (does not include ink tanks). A recycling collection bin will be available at Chapter meetings.
Members can also purchase recycled ink cartridges on line, buying one at the regular price and receiving a second one free. This results in a $5.00 donation to the Chapter for each purchase. The online site is www.inkagain.org. In order for the Chapter to get credit, the WDTU code has to be entered: 310297.

Don't bring Rechargeable batteries:
Many of the electronics you use these days use rechargeable batteries. Help protect the environment by recycling them.
The chapter does not accept rechargeable batteries for recycling but this website provides sources that do: call2recycle.org
Some of those sources in the Denver area are: Batteries Plus, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowes, Office Depot, Radio Shack, Sears, Staples, Target.

If you know of places to recycle electronic and what not please send me the information.

 General Meeting Info & Directions:

Our meetings are held at the Jefferson County (Jeffco) Fairgrounds, in Golden, on the first Wednesday of each month. From 6:30 to 7:15, we feature a fly-tying corner, and social time.. From 7:15 to 7:45, we hold a short business meeting. Our program runs from 7:45 to 8:45 and is immediately followed by the drawing of the winners in our monthly bucket raffle. The public is welcome to come to our meeting. We look forward to seeing you there. We do not have a meeting in July. Our August meeting is generally a Potluck Dinner at one of the area parks. Many times our November or our December meeting is a special event.

Directions:
From downtown Denver, take Sixth Ave. way out west to Indiana Street in Golden. From there head south (left) on Indiana, and at the light take your first right. Go around past the Fire Station. Look for the entrance to the Fairgrounds on your left. Once on the fairgrounds property bear to the left so that all the building are on your right side. At the parking lot walk west towards the buildings. Enter the left end of the building through the far doors. This building has a large lighted marque on the wall welcoming everyone to Jeffco fairgrounds. The sign will probably also announce our meeting as well as other events at the fairgrounds.

Click Here to See a Map to the Fairgrounds

Since the remodeling of the fair grounds there is now an entrance directly off of Indiana Street. For this entrance continue South on Indiana passing the business park buildings on the right. There is an open space past the buildings. In this open space you will see the entrance on the right side of the road. This road will wrap around to the north into the new parking lot. The center section of this parking lot is located due east of the building we meet in. That is; head west young man to our meeting. For those of us who are directionally challenged, walk towards the mountains until you run into the building with the lighted marque, (the upper left end of the building, far door.)
